When I opened the Luigi's World ROM from https://brutalmario.fandom.com/wiki/Brutal_Mario/Super_Kitiku_Mario_Downloads_Page in Mesen-S, the original music works fine, but all custom music goes corruped. Sometimes, I can't get the first level completed. I ducked, spin jumped and face left and duck, but died.

Some custom music, like the first level, works, but with static. The main reason I want to play this ROM is to record the Castle music (inspired by the SMW2 Yoshi's Island castle theme) (and other music) and keep it, but I can't because most levels are either unbeatable, or straight up crash after completing a level (In Mesen-S) :(

All of this music works in ZSNES. The original Brutal Mario world's story text after starting the game for the first time has garbled text. I imagine that the game is still trying to use Japanese characters.

In Mesen-S, in the original Brutal Mario World Demo 7.5, the game crashes at a certain point.

Anybody know what's going on? I'm new to Brutal Mario World, as I've seen a longplay of Demo 7, but I'm playing Demo 7.5.
